The Day it rained Cupcakes
On a hot and weathery day,
a cup of floured clouds
joined with a break of egg yolks,
and a drizzle of sugar to fill
the sky with a storm of batter
that rained cupcakes on
a land hungry for sweets
after a winter devoid of joy.
Some were frosted with snow,
others with planetary chocolate,
all light floated to ground
on drifts of tickling wind,
children, forgetting their mother's
insistence they wear boots
and their mackintoshes, danced
in chocolate puddles, gathering
as many cupcakes as they could,
pausing only to nibble a bite or two,
before rushing inside with rosy-cheeked
smiles, frosting on their chins,
to proclaim this the best day
since candy canes grew six feet tall
in last summer's garden.
